     Wuxi is located in the heart of the Yangtze River Delta, the economic center of China, in the south of Jiangsu Province. Facing the Yangtze River in the north and the Taihu Lake in the south, the city is just about 183 kilometers away from Nanjing in the west and 128 kilometers from Shanghai in the east.
     With Beijing _____ Shanghai Railway running from east to west and Beijing ? Hanzhou Grand Canal flowing from south to north, the city has an extensive transportation network of expressways, like Shanghai - Nanjing Expressway, and provincial trunk roads, leading to major metropolitan cities, such as Shanghai, Nanjing and Hangzhou and a number of parts inside and outside the province. It is only 20 kilometers from the center of the city to the airport, where flights are regularly available to such destinations as Beijing, Fuzhou and Huiyang. The city is also very close to seaports open to the world, such as Jiangyin Harbor, just 26 kilometers away, and Zhangjiangang Harbor, 43 kilometers away, each from the center of the city.
     Covering an total area of 4,650 square kilometers, with the metropolitan area of 517.7 square kilometers, the city has under its jurisdiction, Chongan, Nanchang, Beitang, Suburban, Mashan and New Districts, in addition to its three county-level cities, Jiangyin, Yixing and Xishan.
